The Duplex Plate material can be described as a type of stainless steel which is graded as duplex. This is derived by the addition of ferrite and austenitic metallic phases in equal amounts. This makes the duplex alloy stronger as well as tougher than the standard austenitic steel variations. The Duplex Sheet material contains high quantities of chromium, and low or moderate amounts of nickel. They are known for possessing high corrosion resistance and some excellent mechanical properties. The ASTM A240 UNS S31803 material possesses a balanced duplex microstructure which is approximately equal to the volume percentage of austenite and ferrite.
The Duplex 2205 Plate is almost twice as strong as the regular austenitic or ferritic stainless steel. However, its corrosion resistance properties are quite similar to the stainless steel products of grade 304 or 316. The UNS S31803 Plate also shows excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, even in oxidizing or acidic solutions. Due to the duplex microstructure of the Duplex Stainless Steel Sheet, they come with an improved stress corrosion cracking resistance when compared to the ordinary stainless steel.
The Duplex Stainless Steel Plate can be used for a wide range of applications which includes chemical processing, transportation, and storage. The Duplex Steel Coil is primarily found in the oil and gas industry. They are also quite popular in offshore rigs. Due to their good mechanical properties and high corrosion resistance, the Duplex Strips are also found in heat exchangers and chemical containers that are for use in high concentration chloride environments.
