What is a Duplex round bar, and what are its key characteristics?

A Duplex round bar is a kind of steel bar constructed of Duplex Stainless Steel. It is distinguished by its distinctive microstructure which is composed of about equal portions austenite & ferrite phases. Duplex bar provide outstanding strength, corrosion resistance, and stress corrosion cracking resistance because to their dual phase structure.

Duplex rod are known for their high yield strength, good weldability and excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. These bars are widely used in various industries including oil & gas, chemical processing and marine applications.

What is the heat treatment process for Duplex steel bars?

The heat treatment process for Duplex steel bars involves a combination of solution annealing and quenching. Solution annealing is performed at temperatures between 1,050°C and 1,100°C, followed by water or oil quenching to rapidly cool the bars. This treatment helps dissolve any carbides or precipitates formed during hot working or welding processes.

How does a Duplex stainless steel bar perform in terms of corrosion resistance?

The dual-phase microstructure of Duplex stainless steel, comprising both austenite and ferrite, provides superior resistance to various corrosive agents, including chloride-containing solutions and acids. Duplex Stainless Steel bars offer excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking even in aggressive environments.

Can a Duplex bar be used in high-temperature applications?

Because of its unique combination of mechanical strength & corrosion resistance Duplex bars may be employed in high temperature applications. Duplex Stainless Steel bars have exceptional thermal stability and mechanical qualities at high temperatures allowing them to survive harsh conditions.

Can you provide information on the manufacturing process for Duplex rods?

The manufacturing process for Duplex rods involves several stages, starting with the melting of the Duplex Stainless Steel alloy in an electric arc furnace. Once the alloy is molten it is cast into cylindrical shapes using continuous casting or other casting methods.

The cast rods are then subjected to hot working processes such as rolling or forging to achieve the desired dimensions and mechanical properties. After hot working the Duplex rods undergo further heat treatment including annealing and quenching, to refine the microstructure and enhance their performance. Finally the rods are finished by machining, grinding or polishing.
